The first ‘Bike Share Scheme’ has arrived on Campus.

These bikes can be used by anyone who has signed up as a scheme member and could be particularly useful for those who want to make a short trip and do not have their own bike handy. You can sign up to the scheme by downloading the Ofo app on iTunes or Google Play.

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) and the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) have allocated spaces for Bike Share Companies to use and Ofo bikes have brought bikes onto site.

Whilst the bikes can be picked up from any location within a defined area (and left anywhere within that area) we are encouraging people to use fixed locations on the Campus, so that users can know where to find a bike and to ensure that bikes are kept tidily. The three locations at present are:

  • near Addenbrooke’s main reception
  • on the Car Park H path near Hills Road
  • at the MRC LMB

These areas will be for bike-share hire bikes only. CUH Is not endorsing any particular provider and usage is a matter between the company and the users, but at present Ofo are the only provider; others may arrive and all will be asked to agree to a simple code of practice.

Ofo bikes are the distinctive yellow bikes that can be seen around Cambridge and they are offering free usage until the end of August for those who sign up.

All are of course encouraged to cycle safely and enjoy getting some exercise while travelling.
