DJI 0119 300x168 - Cambridge Biomedical Campus on Virtual Tour - Heart and Lung Research Institute

This was the first in an online series of webinars which began with a focus on the Heart and Lung Research Institute which is rapidly growing just in front of Royal Papworth Hospital. We had two excellent speakers who are closely linked to the new building.

The first was Professor Nick Morrell who is the inaugural Director of the new Cambridge Heart and Lung Research Institute (HLRI). He holds the British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiopulmonary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, and leads the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Theme of the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. He is a respiratory physician and contributes to the clinical service at both Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth Hospitals. At the hospital, he is the Research Director of the Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Unit.

Then later you will hear Dr Ian Smith is a chest physician specialising in ventilatory failure and sleep medicine with expertise in weaning, domiciliary ventilation, sleep apnoea and non-respiratory sleep disorders including narcolepsy and parasomnias. He is the Director of Royal Papworth Hospital’s Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC), the first accredited by the European and British Sleep Societies. He also leads the Research and Development Directorate and oversaw the establishment of the Papworth Clinical Trials Unit.
