Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital

Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital

The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will bring together the clinical excellence of Addenbrooke’s Hospital and world-leading researchers from the University of Cambridge and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre, under one roof.

By bringing the lab bench to the patient bedside, the new hospital will accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into cutting-edge patient care, to detect cancer earlier, treat it more precisely and save more lives.

The specialist cancer research hospital for the East of England is being designed in partnership with patients and staff.

The seven-storey 27,100m2 building is planned to be built next to AstraZeneca and opposite the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre (ATC), on corner of Robinson Way and Keith Day Road.

Located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with its powerful trinity of academia, industry and the NHS, Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will be uniquely placed to change the story of cancer.

Status

The CCRH had the second stage of its business case, its Outline Business Case, approved by NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care and HM Treasury in August 2023. The project’s Outline Business Case demonstrates to Government the vision and benefits that the CCRH will offer to patients across the region.

Following the completion of a new staff car park, the main site where the hospital will be built is now accessible and you will soon see activity onsite as enabling works commence.

The hospital’s principal construction partner Laing O’Rourke were on site in June 2024 completing some initial surveys and this autumn further work will continue including the installation of hoardings around the site, ground clearance and archaeological digs.
