Amenities
Space to collaborate
Several cafes, restaurants and green spaces across the Campus, are open to everybody, including the public. Many organisations have other amenities which are reserved for their staff.
We have green spaces where people can come together, enjoy natural beauty and relax. They also help increase biodiversity on the Campus as the home of variety of plants, fungi and animals.
The Frank Lee Leisure and Fitness Centre boasts a swimming pool, gym, classes and a bar and restaurant on Campus. Membership is open to staff working onsite for several organisations on the Campus, including the NHS, University, CRUK and Medical Research Council.
As well as cycle parking all over the site, we have a Campus Cycle Hub which provides a full range of cycling services, including bike repair, servicing, accessories, rentals and sales. They are open seven days per week, 8-5pm and you can contact the hub on 07414 113948.
Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke’s)
The main concourse boasts several food outlets and hot drink options, including a restaurant, Burger King and a 24-hour Costa Coffee. There is also a cafe which serves food in the Outpatients Department, near reception. Find out more on the CUH website.
Royal Papworth Hospital
Has a Costa Coffee Pod in its outpatient area and a restaurant which serves hot and cold food open 07:30-19:00 every day.
The CRUK Cambridge Institute café
Open Monday – Friday serving a range of hot drinks and snacks throughout the day. Breakfast is served 8:30-10:30am and lunch at 12:00-2:00pm. The café accepts contactless payment.
Ground cafe
The Ground Cafe is situated on the ground floor of the School of Clinical Medicine and sells drinks and hot food between 08:00-16:00 on weekdays and is closed at weekends.
The Grecian Cafe
Can be found on the ground floor of AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre (DISC) and serves hot drinks, smoothies, cakes and pastries, Monday to Friday from 0700-1600.
The Green and The Gardens
The Green is a large, green public open space in front of AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre (DISC) and the Royal Papworth Hospital, surronded by The Gardens, which line the busway between Francis Crick Avenue and Robinson Way. We hold events on the Green throughout the year, which boasts wildflowers growing along the southern edge. Find it on Google Maps here.
Diamond Jubilee Garden
A quiet space within a courtyard in Addenbrookes Hospital, next to the Wolfson Brain Imaging Department. Take a seat on one of the benches amongst wild flowers and lavender.
NHS 70 Garden
Created in 2018 to celebrate the NHSs birthday. The award-winning garden features a meandering path at its centre, with a series of timber posts framing it at different heights and angles, so that new aspects of the space open up as you make your way through.
Royal Papworth Hospital duck pond
A nod to tradition, the pond with its floating duck house serves as a reminder of the pond at the original Papworth Hospital, which patients walked around as part of their recovery. This new pond, with surrounding landscaped gardens, provides an equally tranquil area to relax.
The Bridgerton Garden
The Bridgerton Garden is a secretive and secluded space, based on Penelope Featherington, a wallflower-like character from Netflix’s Bridgerton series. In May 2024, it was announced that the garden would be moved from its home at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to Cambridge University Hospitals (location TBC).
Hobson's Park
Just over the railway from the Campus is Hobson’s Park and Nature Reserve, which totals some 120 acres. The habitats include stands of trees, the main lake and smaller ponds, with stands of reed and bulrush, and grassland.
The main lake has small floating raft-islands as well as a large solid island and these provide safe nest sites for birds, away from marauding predators such as foxes. The park is run by managed by Cambridge City Council.
Ninewells
Nine Wells local nature reserve is a mix of woodland, scrub and water east of Trumpington and just a short walk to the south of our Campus. Its name refers to the number of chalk springs at the site, which are the source of the Hobson’s Conduit waterway that flows through Cambridge. Read more on the City Council’s website.
