About our Campus
We are at the heart of the Cambridge life science ecosystem
With world-leading academic and industry scientists on the same site as three NHS research hospitals and the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, we have created an environment for the rapid and effective translation of research into routine clinical practice.
We want to ensure that local people are involved in life on the Campus and benefit from the facilities and activities happening here. More than 37,000 people visit the site every day and we run a programme of events and social groups which are free and open to everyone, whether they work on the site or not.
The Campus is the biggest employment site in Cambridge, supporting 22,000+ jobs and apprenticeships. We are also a world-leading healthcare workforce training campus.
The Campus contributes £4.2bn to the UK economy each year. For every £10 the Campus makes, another £10 is made for the UK economy. £5.32 of that is in the East of England, including £3.91 for the local area.
We have three world-class hospitals on the Campus serving well over 1m NHS patients every year. They are Addenbrooke’s, the Rosie maternity hospital and Royal Papworth Hospital, which is one of the world’s leading cardiothoracic hospitals and the UK’s main heart and lung transplant centre.

At the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, groundbreaking research thrives. We’re home to three renowned and much-loved NHS research hospitals and world-leading institutions like the best-rated medical school in the UK and the prestigious MRC Lab of Molecular Biology, with a combined force of 12 Nobel Prizes. Together, we’re tackling the world’s most pressing health challenges.
Future plans
We want to continue to provide world-class facilities and improve the Campus. This includes plans to build two new NHS hospitals on the site, both dedicated to developing the next generation of treatments for patients: a dedicated children’s hospital and a cancer research hospital.
