Celebrating inclusivity in sport with the PowerHouseGames
“The PowerHouseGames shows that sport is for everyone”
Last week, Cambridge Biomedical Campus Limited partnered with Power2Inspite to bring the PowerHouseGames to the Campus. Volunteers from across our community joined teams with local children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to play a series of games encouraging inclusivity and fun.
We were joined by Churchill Special Free School, who took to X to share: “We had such a lovely day playing inclusive sports and meeting some incredible volunteers. Huge thanks to every single one of you that gave our students such a positive experience. #PowerHouseGames remains one of our favourite days of the year!”
Volunteers included colleagues from the team behind the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital (pictured), AstraZeneca, the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre, Royal Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Nick Kirby, Managing Director of Cambridge Biomedical Campus Ltd, said:
“Hosting the Games was a great way to bring together people from across our community and we were thrilled by the breadth of volunteers from different organisations. For adults and children alike it was a huge amount of fun, and a great way to bring people together through sport.”
David H Rowitch, Interim Director for the Cambridge Children’s Research Institute, said:
“The PowerHouseGames shows that sport is for everyone as well as having significant physical and mental benefits for children. It was great to see the young people become more confident as the morning went on, and I know the team really enjoyed spending time with these inspiring children, even if some of us were feeling a bit creaky afterwards!”
