Campus Guided Busway bridge to reopen
Update: 29th April 2026
Unfortunately whilst the planned Busway Safety Works are now complete on the bridge, there have been some unexpected safety issues at the junction where the Busway meets Francis Crick Avenue, associated with the construction of the train station.
This means that the buses can now use the bridge, but the path for pedestrians and cyclists has had to remain closed until the issue is resolved.
The path closure is expected to continue until at least Saturday 9th May. We will update this page as we know more.
The County Council, construction partners and landowners have been trying to find a solution and will continue to work together to explore any ways this date can be brought forward.
The works on the Campus side were expected to be finished but have been delayed due to materials being held up by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
We appreciate that this will be disappointing and we apologise for any inconvenience, but we need to prioritise safety.
The bridge which connects the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to nearby Trumpington will reopen for buses on Wednesday 29th April 2026, earlier than previously expected.
The bridge (located here on What3Words) has been closed since March while Cambridgeshire County Council makes a series of safety improvements along the Guided Busway, including installation of fencing and safety barriers across the entire busway network.
These works will be completed by 29th April, meaning that southern section of the Busway between Cambridge Rail Station, the Campus and Trumpington P&R will reopen.
This also means that all Busway A services will resume their normal routes and stopping pattern, with the exception of the 30th April, when essential maintenance on the Green between AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre and Royal Papworth Hospital will require the bus stops on that area of Busway to relocate (see further information below).
Alternative stopping arrangement for the A Bus on 30th April only
Due to essential maintenance works in the Green and Gardens, a one-day diversion will be in place on 30 April 2026 only.
- Royal Papworth Hospital stops will be suspended for the day
- All Busway A services will serve the temporary stop on Robinson Way: What3Words: ///sample.ground.wasp
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.
