GSK announces £400m investment in new R&D facility on Campus

Today, GSK has announced that it will be investing £400m in a new research and development (R&D) facility on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The pharmaceutical giant plans to move 1,000 staff into three new buildings which are under construction on Discovery Drive on the southern part of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Prologis is the development partner for the new centre, which is planned across three interconnected buildings – 2000, 3000 and 4000 Discovery Drive.

In the announcement on its website, GSK stated “The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is one of the largest biomedical campuses in Europe. The new location will provide GSK scientists with direct access to a world-class ecosystem of biomedical research, patient care and academia, enabling translational research by bridging laboratory science with clinical practice.”

GSK already collaborates with many partners across Cambridge and the Campus. They are already a partner in the GSK-Teichmann Lab in the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, and have an existing clinical unit within Addenbrooke’s Hospital. They also have collaborations in place with the Cambridge Centre for Data-Driven Discovery, Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration; Cambridge-GSK Metabolic Science Collaboration and Cambridge Immune Ageing.
