Phase 2 – Discovery Drive
About Discovery Drive
Discovery Drive is the latest phase of growth at Cambridge Biomedical Campus, bringing together purpose-built laboratory, research and office space for leading healthcare and life sciences organisations.
The first building delivered in Phase 2 was Abcam’s £25 million global headquarters, which opened in 2019.
This was followed by 1000 Discovery Drive, a 103,000 sq ft laboratory and office building completed by Prologis in late 2023. The building is fully let to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) for its specialist histopathology and diagnostic cytology services and a leading European biotechnology company.
The next stages of Discovery Drive are now taking shape. In July 2026, GSK announced a £400 million investment in a new global research and development centre at Discovery Drive across 2000, 3000 and 4000 Discovery Drive, the centre will bring together more than 1,000 GSK scientists and become the home of the company’s UK R&D operations.
The announcement marks a major step forward for Phase 2 and strengthens Cambridge Biomedical Campus as a place where clinical care, scientific research and industry can work side by side to accelerate the development of new medicines.
Construction is under way at 2000 Discovery Drive, which will provide six floors of specialist laboratory and office space as well as new amenities and public realm for the wider Campus. Construction of 3000 and 4000 Discovery Drive will commence in 2027. Prologis received planning committee approval to develop 4000 Discovery Drive in July 2026.
