Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital

The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will bring together the clinical excellence of Addenbrooke’s Hospital and world-leading researchers from the University of Cambridge and Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre, under one roof.

By bringing the lab bench to the patient bedside, the new hospital will accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into cutting-edge patient care, to detect cancer earlier, treat it more precisely and save more lives.

The specialist cancer research hospital for the East of England is being designed in partnership with patients and staff.

The seven-storey 27,100m2 building is planned to be built next to AstraZeneca and opposite the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre (ATC), on corner of Robinson Way and Keith Day Road.

Located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus with its powerful trinity of academia, industry and the NHS, Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will be uniquely placed to change the story of cancer.

Status

CCRH had the second stage of its business case, its Outline Business case, approved by NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care and HM Treasury in August 2023. This details the vision and benefits the hospital will offer to patients across the East of England.

The project is now in the process of finalising its Full Business Case before submission later this year, a decisive step in making this project a reality.

You will also now be able to see activity on site. Pre-construction works are underway to start preparing for the build of CCRH.

The contractor, R G Carter, is delivering the programme of works which includes the installation of hoardings, land excavation and an archaeological dig. The work is expected to last until autumn and will prepare the area for full construction of the main hospital.
