PPIE – Shaping Healthcare and Research with Patients

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) brings patients, families and the public into research and innovation, helping to ensure their experiences and needs shape the work from the outset.

Our speakers will explore how PPIE can improve healthcare and research, by developing services in partnership with people who have first-hand knowledge of what went well in their own healthcare experiences and what could have been better.

They will share personal and professional perspectives on lived experience, barriers to meaningful involvement and collaboration between patients, carers, clinicians and researchers.

We’ll be hearing from:

Amanda Stranks, Patient and Public Involvement and Communications Strategy Lead for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) and NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, (BRC), will draw on her experience supporting research teams to develop inclusive involvement strategies., will draw on her experience supporting research teams to develop inclusive involvement strategies. She will discuss how PPIE connects people, research and healthcare systems, and how organisations can support meaningful involvement throughout the research process.

Caroline Benn, Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of  LoQus23 Therapeutics, will draw on her work with patient advisory groups following her breast cancer diagnosis. She will share how her experience has helped improve the way radiotherapy is administered for patients who have difficulty hearing instructions over an intercom system.

Kate Gravett, Parent Advocate for Cambridge Children’s Hospital, will share how the lived experiences of children, young people and families are helping shape the development of the new hospital and influence the future of care and research.

The session will be chaired by Anna Todd, Communications and Engagement Lead for Cambridge Children’s Hospital. Anna launched the Cambridge Children’s Network in 2021, which helped embed the voices of children, young people and families into every stage of the hospital’s development.

There will be an opportunity to network with others across healthcare and innovation after the talk. Free pastries and hot drinks will be provided.
